Bottom line, you stretch your neck to open up the space between the vertebrae along the cervical (“neck”) spine. This will help relieve the pressure on the discs and lessen the pain in your neck.
There are various types of neck traction, such as the one picture above (“gasp!”) commonly known as the over-the-door neck traction. There’s also manual neck traction that is performed by a chiropractor, for example, and he/she stands right behind you and gently pulls your head.
