Shoulder Pain Relief

Shoulder Pain ReliefLately, I have been experiencing shoulder pain on the right side of the body. I can feel it, especially when I try to scratch my shoulder on the left, as I stretch my right arm to get at it. Unlike those who cannot raise their arms above the head due to pain, I have no problems raising both arms up. Since I have increased the number of reps for push-ups and changed from a push-up plank to a forearm plank, I figured that was the cause of my shoulder pain. Exercises to stretch the chest muscles by squeezing your shoulder blades as you bring your shoulders back did help somewhat, but it wasn’t hitting the right spot. Little did I know that it may have been the way I was sleeping! Check out today’s video if you are experiencing shoulder pain similar to my situation, as the exercises in it were very helpful in relieving my shoulder pain.

Knee Pain Exercises

When we start an exercise program, we may go all out and get injured, resulting in pain somewhere on the body, such as knee pain. It’s common, especially if your exercise routine calls for squats and lunges. They are both great bodyweight exercises, but if you got knee pain, it probably won’t feel too good on your knees. Interestingly enough, such pain could be caused by an imbalance of your hip to your knee, and/or knee to your foot. So it may not be just in the area of your knees, but the surrounding areas as well. Weak quadriceps muscles (aka “quads”) could also trigger knee pain. Here’s a video that presents three exercises for your knees that may help you …

RICE and Acute Pain

No, not that type of rice you might be thinking about, but a form of therapy you can do to relieve pain in the comfort of your own home. And today, we’re talking about acute pain. According to WebMD, acute pain “… starts suddenly and usually doesn’t last long”. Back Pain Is Even Part Of The World Series

Back pain is, unfortunately, a nagging piece of life for many in the United States, as well as for others in the world. Now that the professional baseball season in the U.S. is coming to a close with the World Series, it’s a battle between Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. But that’s not the only battle David Wright is involved with. The 2015 Mets captain and All-Star third baseman is also battling back pain.

The Other Astaxanthin

On the previous blog post, I discussed the power of the “alpha antioxidant” called astaxanthin. More specifically, its documented ability to reduce chronic inflammation. Having access to natural and safe anti-inflammatories are welcome news to those who suffer from chronic back pain. As discussed in previous posts, there is a large number of individuals in the world who suffer from chronic pain, and diseases which are known to be caused by chronic inflammation. And one wonders whether the demand will far exceed the supply of quality astaxanthin from the harvest of microalgae, as there are only 3 major companies in the world that produce it.

Is Astaxanthin The Mother Of All Antioxidants?

When you see the word “Astaxanthin“, which is pronounced as “asta-ZAN-thin” , what is the first thing that pops into your mind? For me, I thought it was some kind of additive manufacturers stick into gum. Okay, bad play on words, however, I had no idea that it was an antioxidant … and a very significant one. I thought Glutathione, a critical endogenous antioxidant, was the “king of antioxidants”. But recently, Astaxanthin is being touted as the “alpha antioxidant”.

Back Pain Education Day 2015: Mindfulness And Pain

I have discussed a number of topics presented in the Back Pain Education Day sponsored by Stanford University, and specifically, topics which focused on the mind and back pain connection. Today I want to wrap it up by discussing the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) presentation by Mark Neenan, M.Ed., who is a well-known instructor of MBSR. He mentioned that to resist looking into our back pain and suffering, is like putting up road blocks on our efforts to seek pain relief. Why is that? According to Mark Neenan, doing so would “turn the volume up on the perception of pain, and actually increase the experience of suffering”.
